Setting Up a Custom Domain for Your JobShop

Modified on Mon, 2 Nov at 11:48 AM

Your JobShop can be accessible under its own address, for example careers.your-company.com. This article explains what a domain is, how it is structured, and what needs to be set up. You will also see which steps your IT team handles and which ones we handle.

    What is a domain?

A domain is an internet address that you type into a browser, for example your-company.com. It is the human-readable form of the address where a website can be found on the internet. A domain always belongs to a company or a person and is registered and managed with a provider.

What are the parts of a domain?

    Using careers.your-company.com as an example:

    PartExampleMeaning
SubdomaincareersA freely chosen prefix placed before the main domain. It allows separate areas to be operated under the same domain.
Domainyour-companyYour company's name on the internet. It is registered with a provider.
Extension (TLD).comThe extension, for example .de, .com, or .at.

✔ Recommendation: For the JobShop, we recommend a subdomain such as careers.your-company.com. Your existing company website under the main domain will remain unchanged.

Why use a custom subdomain for the JobShop?

Applicants see an address that is clearly associated with your company. This builds trust and fits your image as an employer.

    What is a CNAME record?

For your subdomain to lead to your JobShop, it needs to be connected to our system. This is done via a CNAME record. It works like a signpost: it specifies that the address of your subdomain points to another address that we manage. The record is set in the DNS settings of your domain. DNS is the address directory of the internet. It is maintained with the provider where your domain is registered, typically by your IT team.

    Who does what?

    You (customer and IT)talentsconnect

Choose the desired subdomain, for example careers.your-company.com

IT sets the CNAME record in the DNS settings

Notify us as soon as the record has been set

Provides you with the target domain that the CNAME should point to

Ensures on our end that this target domain redirects to the correct JobShop

Verifies the record and activates the new address for your JobShop

    How the setup works

    1
Receive the target domain: We share the domain that the CNAME record should point to.
    2
Choose a subdomain: You decide on an address and let us know (recommendation: careers.your-company.com).
    3
Set the CNAME record: Your IT team creates a CNAME record for the subdomain from step 2 in the DNS settings, entering the domain from step 1 as the target.
    4
Confirm completion: Please let us know as soon as the record has been set.
    5
Set up the redirect: We ensure on our end that the target domain redirects to the correct JobShop endpoint. After that, your JobShop will be accessible via your subdomain.

⚠ Note: After setting a DNS record, it may take some time before it is visible everywhere on the internet.

ℹ Info: You will also need a similar CNAME record for Google Search Console. You can find instructions here: Set up Google Search Console (GSC).
