How the Search Works
How does the search work, and why do jobs appear where my search term doesn't occur at all?
The search combines classic keyword search with a semantic search on the job title. It doesn't just look for the words you entered — it also compares the meaning of the title. This is why jobs with a similar title can appear even if your search term doesn't occur in the text. Matches containing your search term are always displayed before matches that are only similar in meaning.
Which fields are searched?
Always searched: Job title (highest weighting), location, job ID, company, and the full address (street, postal code, city).
Optionally searched (when full-text search is enabled on the search and filter page or in the search module): intro, job description, requirements, offer, company text, additional information, and benefit texts. These fields have the lowest weighting. Only whole words matched from the beginning of the word are found here.
The contact text is never searched. Filter values, such as job categories, are also not found via the search bar — they are only used for filtering.
Why doesn't searching for "Meister" find "Produktionsmeister"?
The search matches words from their beginning. "Produktion" will therefore find "Produktionsmeister", but a term from the middle or end of a word, such as "Meister", will not. Searching within words is not enabled.
Can applicants search by job ID?
Yes. The job ID (external ID) is searchable, and the placeholder in the search bar indicates this. A separate external reference ID, however, is not searched.
How are search results sorted?
By default, results are sorted first by relevance, then alphabetically by job title (A–Z), and then by the number of locations. Without a search term, all jobs are equally relevant, so the list appears to be sorted purely alphabetically.
Location Search
How does the search bar handle location input, and why do other places appear when searching for a city?
The search bar does not have a dedicated location search. A location you enter is matched against the location and address fields like any other search term. Since matching starts from the beginning of a word, "Berlin" will also find "Berlin-Spandau", for example. Addresses and multi-word queries can also bring additional locations into the results. The location filter or radius search can be used to display only specific cities.
How does the radius search work?
Applicants select a location from suggestions that appear after three characters are entered, and set a radius of 10, 25, 50, or 100 km (default: 10 km). Jobs are filtered based on their coordinates (latitude and longitude), not by postal code.
- Jobs whose location has no coordinates will not be found by the radius search.
- If a job has multiple locations, it will be displayed as soon as one of them falls within the radius. As a result, a different location may be shown on the job card.
- The radius and filters work together: a job must satisfy both.
Display and Analytics
How do I enable the map view?
You can enable or disable the map in the settings of the search and filter page. The default view is always the list — the map cannot be set as the default view. The map zooms down to district level; a street-level view is not available.
How do I view the performance of my search page in the talentsconnect Home?
The performance of the search page is measured in the talentsconnect Home under page analytics. Filter by the slug of the search page (
/search) to view only that page. You can find more information here:
