How can I reduce the size of image files?

The problem

Images have an enormous impact on the loading times of the JobShop and often quickly add up to several MB, which must first be downloaded when the user opens a JobShop page (especially with a mobile device). The more images with large file sizes, the longer it takes for the page to load completely. The user experience and the performance of the JobShop decreases.

With ImageOptim for Mac (https://imageoptim.com/mac) or the online version (https://imageoptim.com/online), you can easily reduce the assets without having to accept major losses in quality, as is the case with GIMP and other tools.

Excursus: Image formats

Always use .jpg for background images and other images that do not require a transparent background. Images in this format are easier to reduce in file size.

Only use .png for graphics that require a transparent background (e.g. logo). This image format is not so easy to reduce in file size.

Web - Version:

In the web version, you have the option of uploading your image online.

You can make settings regarding the quality of the image or the format in which it should be output:

How can I reduce the image sizes as much as possible?

Do not use the options offered by GIMP etc. to reduce image sizes, as the image quality will suffer greatly. Instead, use a tool that specializes in reducing images intelligently:

You should make the following settings in ImageOptim:

The images created for the JobShop can be dragged and dropped into the ImageOptim window collectively or individually and the reduction process starts automatically. Your images are then simply stored in the same location and you can start uploading them to the JobShop.
