The Problem
Images have a huge impact on the loading times of the JobShop, and several MB can quickly add up that users need to download when opening a JobShop page (especially on mobile devices). The more images with large file sizes, the longer it takes for the page to fully load. This reduces the user experience and the performance of the JobShop.
With ImageOptim for Mac (https://imageoptim.com/mac) or in the online version (https://imageoptim.com/online) you can easily reduce your assets in bulk, without having to accept significant quality losses as with GIMP and other tools.
Excursus: Image Formats
- Always use .jpg for background images and other images that do not require a transparent background. Images in this format are easier to reduce in file size.
- Only use .png for graphics that need a transparent background (e.g. logos). This image format is not as easy to reduce in file size.
Web Version:
In the web version you have the option to upload your image online.
You can adjust settings regarding the quality of the image or the format in which it should be exported:

Mac Version:
How can I reduce image sizes as effectively as possible?
Do not use GIMP or similar tools to reduce image sizes, as image quality suffers greatly with those. Instead, use a tool that specialises in intelligently reducing images:
In ImageOptim you should apply the following settings:

The images created for the JobShop can be dragged and dropped into the ImageOptim window either all at once or individually, and the reduction process starts automatically. Afterwards, your images are saved in the same location and you can begin uploading them to the JobShop.
